Dallas V.O.T.E.S. is committed to making voting accessible to every eligible voter in Dallas – and our leaders should be too!
Join with us in sending an email or tweet to the Senate State Affairs Committee and the House Elections Committee asking them to oppose SB 7, SB 6 and other efforts to restrict voting.
The freedom to vote is a sacred right in our democracy. Texas just saw record turnout amid a global pandemic, even as Texas remains the hardest state in which to vote. The Texas Secretary of State called the 2020 election “smooth and secure.” Yet the Legislature is now taking up two bills - Senate Bill 7 and House Bill 6 - that would restrict voting by:
- Requiring a doctor’s note to vote by mail.
- Making it harder for voters with disabilities to get assistance at the polls.
- Limiting the hours for voting.
- Eliminating drive-through voting, curbside voting, and voter centers.
- Giving untrained, partisan poll watchers the right to interfere with voting and to videotape voters.
- Imposing felony jail time for innocent mistakes by voters and election officials.
- Criminalizing small mistakes for people registering voters.
- Restricting voters from dropping off completed absentee ballots.
- Mandating inaccurate voter roll purges that would disqualify many eligible voters.
These bills are a recipe for long lines, delays, and red tape - and much of the impact will fall on voters who are young, Black, Latino, economically disadvantaged, or disabled.
Tell the Texas Legislature that you oppose SB 7, HB 6 & similar efforts to restrict voting!
